God’s Chosen People

I find the growing anti-Semitism in the world today very unsettling. It is, as it always has been and always will be, just as we are told throughout scripture. So, the persecution of Jews in and of itself comes as no surprise to me. What is surprising to me is the growing vocalization of the belief many professed Christians have that God’s chosen people are no longer His chosen people. As they put it – the Church replaced Israel.

This Replacement Theology has no scriptural foundation. None.

Please show me the scripture(s) where God erases/revokes/takes backs His promises to His chosen people. I can’t find it. Instead, what I find, from the beginning to literally the end of scripture, is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with His chosen people.

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed, (Genesis 12:1-3).

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand, (Revelation 7:4-8).

Between Genesis and Revelation, much more is found about God’s chosen people and His promises to them. Here are just a few:

Have you ever made a promise you didn’t keep? Most humans have. God is not human. He keeps his promises, and because God is eternal, His promises are everlasting, (Psalm 145:13; Isaiah 40:8; 2 Peter 3:9; Hebrews 10:23; 1 Kings 8:56).

Many prominent and influential people in the world today are spouting this Replacement Theology. I can only reconcile this mistake by believing they don’t know scripture very well, they’re misinterpreting the Word of God, or sadly – they are not saved. Whatever their reasons are, their idea makes God a liar. I don’t know if these people realize this, or in their arrogance they feel they are enlightened to some new thing.

I’m a follower of Christ. Christ is a Jew. God chose those people to call His own and teach His way to, and through them, brought about the reconciliation of all men unto Himself. Christ told us, “None come unto the Father, except through Me,” (John 14:6). Through God’s plan, I am grafted in to His olive tree, (Romans 11:17). But He has not forgotten the Jews. They will be redeemed. Just as all throughout scripture, God protects a remnant of His chosen people and He will fulfill His promises in them. Look at what will happen at the battle of Armageddon when Jesus returns:

And it shall come to pass in that day, That I will seek to destroy all the nations That come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, The spirit of grace and of supplications: And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, And they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, And shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, As the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon, (Zechariah 12:9-11).

Zechariah goes on to tell us in chapter 13 how a remnant of these Jews will call upon the name of Lord and be saved.

And so, I remain baffled. I don’t know what Replacement Theologists do with these scriptures. Maybe they think, “Well, that’s the Old Testament, we live in the New Testament”. Okay, so what do you do with the entire chapter 11 in Romans which specifically tells us God has NOT forgotten His people?

I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew, (Romans 11:1-2).

It is obvious, and scripture bares it out, that God has not forgotten His chosen people, He has not replaced them with the Christian church, and He will not fail in the fulfillment of His promises to them. No such scripture supporting any of those ideas exists.

Now, does this mean that all Jews will be saved? No, it does not. Just as with all other peoples of the earth, many do not (and did not) accept Jesus as the Son of God, many Jews will not (and did not) either. All throughout scripture, we see where Israel went astray – many times, and God was longsuffering with them, He punished them for their disobedience, and He forgave them when they repented. They will repent again.

The choice that the Jewish leaders and many others made to not accept Jesus caused Him great sorrow. As He was about to enter Jerusalem just days before His crucifixion, He stopped and looked over the city, and weeping He said:

Praise our Lord that He wished for the Good News to be spread to all peoples of the earth. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life,” (John 3:16). “Whosoever”, that’s you and me – that’s Jew and Gentile – that’s men and women – that’s black and white. That’s anyone. That’s everyone.

It is my prayer, that you be saved. Now is the time. If you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior, now is the time.

To those who are saved, I hope you take the time to search the scriptures for yourselves to learn more about God’s chosen people and can see that those among us who know God has not forgotten them do not have a brain virus. Instead, we know who God is and understand His word. God keeps His promises.
