Today is the Day of Salvation

Today is the day of salvation
Why is this hard to believe
Our culture has put man before God
A trick that’s designed to deceive
So many will fall to the pressure
Don’t push me – It’s my life to live
I can’t be as bad as you tell me
I’ve done nothing for Him to forgive
The message is all you can tell them
The Truth is all you can say
The Spirit is what will convict them
Confession’s required this day
Belief is our confirmation
Christ died and defeated the grave
A gift that’s beyond understanding
A knowledge our soul has been saved

The Work of Our Hands

I left teaching – for the second time – about two years ago. I was writing a lot on the blog and for a book, with a couple of other books stewing around between my brain and my husband’s. I was very passionate about my relationship with God and devoted to enriching that with study. I told my co-worker, Misty, that I felt like my job was getting in the way of my work. After praying about it, discussing it, and with the support of my husband, I quit my job in education with full intentions to… “Work full-time for Jesus,” as I responded to all who inquired.

The Fullness of His Grace

When my son began to talk, he mispronounced many words and struggled to make certain sounds.  Not out of the ordinary for a baby, and it was sweetly reminiscent of my little sister, Mary, who spoke with a slight lisp and chewed her words when she spoke in a way that mesmerized all she met.  Mary’s little lisp was cute and captivating when she was a child, and she eventually grew out of it (for the most part – I can still hear it when she is really tired).

The Fellowship of the Brethren

There are a lot of things I miss about the church I grew up in – seeing my aunts, uncles, and cousins on a regular basis is pretty high on the list – but those fellowship meals are some of my fondest memories.

Of course it was wonderful to spend time with all the members of the church, but…the food…

the food

the FOOD!

That’s what I miss!  Yes…I was raised Baptist.  Baptist need to eat.  Together.  Often. Continue reading “The Fellowship of the Brethren”

He Will Come to Us Like the Rain

I was raised near the South Canadian River in a small town in Oklahoma.  My family spent a lot of time on that river, noodling and swimming and searching for morels.  I have always understood the power of its raging waters after the spring floods.  A fact that was made all too clear to me when my brother, Robin, took me with him one day to hunt for arrowheads.  There had just been a heavy rain, and he knew this was a great time to find them.  Farmers had just plowed their fields for the spring planting, and the rain would help expose any treasure we sought. You Can Lick Anything!

I have been blessed enough to have traveled to Europe six times…so far.  Most of my adventures have been with students and teachers on educational tours.  I have seen many countries, great works of art, magnificent ruins, Gothic cathedrals, resting places of history’s mighty figures, battlefields where the future of the world was decided, and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea, to name a few.  None of my trips were anything like my very first one.  For it was on that trip that I discovered I had a massive impulse to touch things.  I mean…massive.  Like, uncontrollable impulse.  In fact, I was literally unaware that I was even doing it until I had done it. The Mark of The Lord

I come from a family of many colors.  On my mother’s side, we are Native American.  That rich, red blood, mixed with a wonderful variety of shades of white, provides for some beautiful skin tones ranging the spectrum from white to just left of black (that means not quite black for those of you struggling with the color spectrum).  So you get caramel…oooh, chocolate…yummy, a few pieces of divinity (the candy not the Creator)…mmm, and a couple of espresso lights thrown in there just for fun.   Continue reading “The Mark of The Lord”

Just Do It!

If I worked all day, every day, for the rest of my life, it would never be enough.  I, in my imperfection, my sin, my absolute ‘humanness’ could never do enough.  No matter how pure my intentions, or how true my heart, I can never reach this pinnacle I thought I had to reach in order to be able to serve the Lord.  I can’t wait until I’ve finally reached this level of Nirvana, that does not exist, to serve God.  I have to serve Him now. Continue reading “Just Do It!”
