“Plan B” is “Plan A”

Turn On the Lights

As a high school history teacher, it was of utmost importance to me that my students understood what I was talking about. Sometimes, presenting a clear picture of certain aspects – like culture – from a time long ago and in a completely different part of the world wasn’t always an easy task. In one of my first upper-level Ancient History classes, the students were the smart, nerdy-type (nerdy-type people are awesome…just look at the success of The Big Bang Theory if you don’t believe me – everyone loves a good nerd). Star Wars &/or Star Trek were very high on their lists. Continue reading ““Plan B” is “Plan A””

My Dream Home

For we know that if our earthly house, a tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:1

I’ve seen a lot of houses in my life.  There are even shows on TV celebrating everything from the most over-the-top luxurious to the latest craze…tiny houses.  My own experience ranged from the stately 3-story home of my grandparents (dad’s side) to the little more than a shack that my Mamaw & Papaw (mom’s side) lived in.  My grandparents house is something I still dream about.  It was so big!  There were so many things to do and see.  Visiting there was like a wonderland adventure.   Continue reading “My Dream Home”

If I Only Had A Brain

Mrs. Jones, my kindergarten teacher, had just explained to us what “Show & Tell Day” was.  This was the first time I had ever heard of such a thing, and I was very excited about it.  All the students were going to get to bring things from home, show them off, and tell about the item.  Such a great way to get to know my classmates a little better, and a great way to let them know more about myself.  We were all, pretty much, new to each other.  I quickly began to look around the room and wonder, “What will Julie bring?  Ooh, what will Tammy bring?  Shane, what will Shane bring?”  It was very exciting, and then I focused back on myself.  What would I bring?  How would I decide what was the best item to bring?  This provided endless possibilities for me.  I really wanted to “wow” the crowd.  So, I decided on the best, most amazing, most interesting thing I had in my house…the brain. Thanks Be Unto The Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs,

So we pour out our praise,

We pour out our praise.

Great Are You Lord!

These words from one of my favorite praise and worship songs pretty much sums up how I feel this Thanksgiving.  I fall on my knees in praise of the Lord, thanking Him for all He has blessed me with.  I will thank the Lord with all my heart; I will declare all Your wonderful works. Psalm 9:1  Many could look at my life and ask why would I thank Him.  That always makes me grin just a little because I realize they just don’t get it.  Then it makes me sad because I realize, they just don’t get it.  Whatever you have been dealt in life, you cannot forget that God is still on the throne, and everything is part of His great plan.  Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7   Continue reading “Thanks Be Unto The Lord”

Have Thine Own Way

Have Thine own way Lord

Have Thine own way

Thou art the potter, I am the clay

Mold me and make me after Thy will

While I am waiting yielded and still

Lord, this is all I truly want.  For You to have Your will fulfilled in me.  Whatever You want me to do, wherever You want me to go, I want only that.  I am ready and willing to serve You, and I pray that You will use me to bring glory to Your great name.  Help me to know my calling.  To hear Your voice, and have no doubt.  To have the strength and the grace to pick up my cross and follow You.  These things I pray in Jesus Holy Name.

Amen

When You’re Ready

At my desk, my pen in hand

Waiting, wondering, what’s God’s plan?

A calling came, that much I know

A need to share?  A need to go?

But where I ask?  What can I say?

Patience child, a piece of clay

Mold me Lord, please shape my heart

Mold me Lord, to play a part

Use me Lord, Your message heard

Use me Lord, to spread Your word
