1 Extra Degree

In my leadership classes and student council, I would share with them a short video about how giving one degree more can make an enormous impact in their lives and the lives of others.  It went something like this: Continue reading “1 Extra Degree”

Built Upon Shifting Sands

Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash, (Matthew 7:24-27).

Sculpting in the Storm

In the Hands of a Master

I am a great lover of Renaissance art.  As a teacher, this time period was one of my favorites to cover in my upper-level elective class.  I focused almost exclusively on 44 pieces I had chosen to weave the tale of this time line through.  Continue reading “Sculpting in the Storm”

He Will Come to Us Like the Rain

I was raised near the South Canadian River in a small town in Oklahoma.  My family spent a lot of time on that river, noodling and swimming and searching for morels.  I have always understood the power of its raging waters after the spring floods.  A fact that was made all too clear to me when my brother, Robin, took me with him one day to hunt for arrowheads.  There had just been a heavy rain, and he knew this was a great time to find them.  Farmers had just plowed their fields for the spring planting, and the rain would help expose any treasure we sought. I’m Not Done Yet

So many things have gone on in my life in the last several days.  Seems like the devil is working overtime to try and steal my joy.  But, that is life, and it’s hard to have a message if there isn’t a mess to go through, or a testimony if there aren’t some tests along the way.  “Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4  So…bring it on Satan!  I’m not done yet.   Continue reading “I’m Not Done Yet”

Veterans Day 2016

Praise the Lord we live in a country where men and women have, and do, volunteer to put their lives on the line for us.  “No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13   Today is the day we should all stop and spend some time praying for our military, past and present, who live all over the world.  May God Bless Them All!
