Many people would consider a day like this, dreary, depressing, or even scary. I find it beautiful and fascinating. When the clouds lower themselves to be in among us, it’s ethereal. The bible gives us many instances where God has dwelt among His people via cloud. A large number of these verses contain the story of Moses, Exodus 13:21-22 & 16:10, Numbers 16:42, and Leviticus 16:2. I think one of the most obvious, and straight-forward, passages comes from 1 Kings 8:10-12, When the priests came out of the Holy Place, a thick cloud filled the Temple of the LORD . The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the LORD filled the Temple of the LORD . Then Solomon prayed, “O LORD, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud… The glorious presence of the Lord. The Lord Himself! Can you imagine?
I realize the weather condition known as ‘fog’, is not the same thing as the cloud God came in among the people with. But it still makes me feel closer to Him today as I walk around in it. I long for the day when I will be with the Lord and He will not have to shield Himself from me in a cloud. I will get to see Him in all His illustrious beauty and behold His holy nature. John describes Him for us in Revelations 4. Here he paints the image of God on His throne where John saw winged creatures worshiping Him, Day and night they never stop, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming. Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne, the One who lives forever and ever, the 24 elders fall down before the One seated on the throne, worship the One who lives forever and ever, cast their crowns before the throne, and say: Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created.
We have such an awesome God! I hope you never look at the fog the same way again. See it and think of our Lord.
